Ionia tennis humbled by loss to Portland

The Ionia girls tennis team is serving up some major skills on the tennis court this spring. 

The Bulldogs (8-2 overall, 2-2 CAAC White) have had an exciting start to their season this year. They’ve won eight of their first nine matches so far this spring, their only loss coming from a solid Eaton Rapids team last week.

Belding baseball’s Max McCarty to pursue passions at Alpena Community College

Belding’s Max McCarty gets to have the best of both worlds when it comes to his college years. He’ll pursue both a major and a sport he loves. 

The Black Knight baseball player has kept himself plenty busy during his time at Belding, playing four other sports throughout his high school career — football, basketball, soccer and cross country.

Lakeview girls track wins 20th annual Hornet Invite


The stands were packed at Central Montcalm’s football stadium Friday night, and it wasn’t for football. 

The Central Montcalm track team hosted their 20th annual Hornet Invitational, highlighting the talents of 14 schools throughout the afternoon. Five of those 14, including the hosting Hornets, were local teams — Belding, Ionia, Lakeview and Montabella — making for a great day of competition.

Belding girls soccer shuts out Godwin Heights for first win

Spirits were high at Rudness Field on Wednesday for the Belding girls soccer team. 

The Black Knights (1-4-3 overall, 1-2-1 OK Silver) had a slow start to the season, racking up losses and ties against some of the toughest teams in their conference. They hosted the Wolverines of Godwin Heights (0-8 overall, 0-4 OK Silver) Wednesday night for Parent Night, hoping to get their long-awaited first win of the season.

Montabella’s Austin Foster commits to Adrian College basketball

College basketball has always been a dream for Montabella’s Austin Foster.  Now, his dream becomes his reality.

The Mustang senior has had a remarkable basketball career, being a varsity player for all four years. Although his time with the Mustangs is finished, he looks forward to continuing his academic and athletic career at Adrian College.
