Sara Rittersdorf is a full-time Chemistry Instructor at Montcalm Community College. She first came to the college as a dual-enrolled high school student and found her way back here several times for part-time jobs throughout her college years.
After graduating from high school, she received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry, a minor in math and a secondary education teaching certificate from Michigan Technological University. She went on to earn a master’s degree in science education from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in applied statistics from Michigan Technological University.

The Montcalm Community College Board will be asking voters to consider a proposal to renew the college’s operating millage during the presidential primary on Feb. 27.
The levy is 1.1487 mills and provides approximately $3.9 million annually toward MCC’s operating budget, or about 19% of the total budget. It would be a renewal of a mill levy that has been in place since 1996, when voters agreed to establish a millage to protect and improve the College’s programming and facilities, and to keep tuition and fees affordable. Voters renewed this modest millage, which sunsets every 10 years, in both 2005 and 2014.
Three men, including two military veterans, are the newest additions to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office deputy roster.
Tyler Caterino, Adam Coon, Matthew Vannette all attended (or are currently attending) the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College and they are also the newest road patrol deputy faces in Montcalm County.
As the Montcalm Care Network aimed to recognize a person or organization for its annual community excellence award, the organization looked no further than to spread the award throughout Montcalm County’s finest.
At its December holiday gathering, MCN staff and Board of Directors recognized local law enforcement agencies for their compassion in seeking to provide a better response to mental health crises.
Ionia County Sheriff Charlie Noll says his department is “making positive progress” in its ongoing quest to obtain and maintain a full staff with no open positions.
“We’re not where we need to be yet, but it’s getting there,” Noll said. “We’ve got two (deputy) positions currently open right now. On the corrections side, we’re still a little bit weak, but we’ve got some people who are interested and we’re bringing people in who have some experience.”
“I want to foster an environment where the students trust me to guide them in their knowledge and skill development in becoming successful maternity and pediatric nurses,” shared Nicole Kalinowski, a registered nurse, who joined Montcalm Community College in August as a full-time Nursing and Allied Health instructor.
