Take a picture with Santa Claus, decorate Christmas cookies, make ornaments and snowflakes and experience the joy and wonder of the Christmas season with family activities at Montcalm Community College’s Mingle with Kringle event. This free family event will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. No advanced registration is required. The event is a partnership with the Montcalm Heritage Village and donations to Heritage Village will be accepted during the event.

Three Montcalm Community College Ag Club students have joined the highest ranks of the National FFA Organization, earning one of the most prestigious honors attainable in agricultural education. Madyson Hartman of St. Louis, Michigan, Nicole Hollabaugh of Ithaca and Savanah Mager of Saranac were awarded the American FFA Degree at the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo on Nov. 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A flourishing law care and snow removal business established its roots during a difficult time. Aaron Hollinshead worked for his family’s aftermarket vehicle accessible shop for most of his life, while his wife Britt was in the banking industry for seven years, working her way up from teller to branch manager. In the fall of 2017, Aaron was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.
HOME: Kent County approves first Brownfield plan to support affordable housing in Lowell
The Kent County Board of Commissioners has approved the county’s first-ever Brownfield Redevelopment Plan, paving the way for new affordable housing in the city of Lowell. Through the Kent County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (KCBRA), the approved plan will enable Flat River Outreach Ministries (FROM) to transform a vacant parcel at 504 E. Main St. in Lowell into a 17-unit affordable housing development featuring two multi-unit buildings and one duplex.

Tricia Yonker teaches in the Early College program at Montcalm Community CollegeTricia Yonker, B.A., is the Early College math instructor at Montcalm Community College. She found out about the Early College Algebra 2 position while attending a professional development course at the Ionia County Intermediate School District with Dean Gage, who teaches economics, government, and political science in the Early College program. She teaches both sections of Algebra 2 in the program.
MCC INSIDER: MCC Ag Club students spread holiday cheer with Harvest Food Baskets
In what has become an annual tradition, MCC Agriculture Club students gathered at the Woodside Café on Nov. 5 to pack Harvest Food Baskets. The students worked together, dividing and conquering to swiftly pack 25 baskets with several food items that would illuminate a table for a Thanksgiving meal. Items packed into the baskets included chickens, apples, potatoes, onions, stuffing, chicken broth, muffin mix and more. Much of the food was locally sourced, including apples from AB Orchards in Sparta, donated courtesy of MCC freshman Logan Anderson.

VETERANS DAY: MCC to celebrate veterans during Nov. 10 event
Montcalm Community College will honor area veterans during its annual Veterans Day event on Monday, Nov. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. The program will be held simultaneously on both MCC’s Greenville and Sidney campuses, celebrating the service and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
