Purple Week in Ionia County consists of special themed activities to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer throughout the month of September. This year's donations to Ionia Community Awareness (ICA), the organization behind it all since 2010, are still being counted, but board members said preliminary figures indicate they'll be at or above last year's total of $38,000.
