The exclusionary Sundown Towns



In writing last week’s article about the Green Book, I became increasingly aware of how many communities across America were not only devoid of accommodations where Black travelers could stop to eat or sleep, but which made it clear, under no uncertain terms, that for a Black traveler to be present in those communities after dark constituted a violation of both law and custom.
