Sheriff eliminates deputy from Howard City, Reynolds Township police protection contracts

With eight deputy positions currently vacant, the Montcalm County sheriff has eliminated one deputy from police protection contracts with Howard City and Reynolds Township and is supportive of ending Crystal Township’s contract altogether, raising concerns about the future of dedicated police protection in some municipalities.

The Montcalm County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 13 voted to renew the sheriff’s police protection contracts with the village of Howard City and neighboring Reynolds Township at the request of Sheriff Mike Williams.
