As the sun began to set Wednesday evening and a shadow steadily unfurled over the turf of Rudness Field, the Belding High School marching band found itself nearing the end of a 13-hour day, immersed in a growing darkness. As the previously bright sky turned from blue to black, the 95 members of the ensemble could be forgiven if they were to let that darkness overcome them.
