The Montcalm County Board of Commissioners tentatively said “yes” to all budget requests from the sheriff (if those requests are funded by a law enforcement millage) and tabled a request from the prosecutor during the first round of budget talks Monday morning. Commissioners will meet for a second round of budget talks for the 2025-2026 fiscal year at 2 p.m. on Monday before that day’s regular board meeting at 4 p.m. Chairman Patrick Q. Carr, Vice Chairman Adam Petersen and commissioners Nate Alexander, Charlie Mahar and Matt Murray were all present for Monday’s meeting, while commissioners Chris Johnston and Scott Painter were absent (Painter is in the process of resigning).
