Maintenance director fired for ‘creating a hostile work environment’

Ionia County Facilities Maintenance Director Rod Steel was fired on Dec. 27 after allegations he created a hostile work environment and opened the county up to potential litigation. According to a copy of Steel's personnel file obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by the Daily News, a “notice of termination” document reported the results of a “pre-determination meeting” that was held earlier that same day.
