JUST IN: Voters shoot down Tri County school sinking fundFree Access


PIERSON TOWNSHIP — Tri County Area Schools voters in Tuesday’s election shot down a decade-long $10.8 million sinking fund ballot proposal, according to unofficial results with most precincts reporting.

The proposal to levy 1.5 mills ($1.50 on each $1,000 of taxable value) for 10 years (2026 to 2035) to create a sinking fund failed by 943 “no” votes to 526 “yes” votes, a difference of 417 votes, with only Kent County’s Nelson Township not reporting as of 11 p.m.

The proposal failed by 614 to 346 in Montcalm County, by 322 to 177 in Newaygo County and by 7 to 3 in Kent County’s Solon Township.
