EUREKA TOWNSHIP — One student and a female driver sustained minor injuries after the driver struck the rear of a Greenville Public Schools’ school bus this morning. 

According to the Michigan State Police Sixth District, troopers with the MSP Lakeview Post responded to a car vs school bus crash at 6:58 a.m. this morning.

A vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old female from Lyons, was traveling westbound on County Farm Road east of Backus Road when she struck the back of a school bus. 

The driver was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. 

The students were safely loaded into another bus and transported to Greenville Public Schools. 

The crash remains under investigation.

According to the MSP, speed and distracted driving may be factors in the crash.

While the MSP reported that no students were injured in the crash, GPS Superintendent Wayne Roedel said a student who boarding the bus at the time of the crash received minor injuries

“We want to inform you of an incident involving one of our school buses this morning,” Roedel said in a communication to parents. “While picking up a student, a car struck the bus from behind. We are relieved to share that only the student entering the bus and the vehicle driver sustained minor injuries and they are currently receiving proper medical attention. 

“We want to reassure you that all other student on the bus are fine,” he continued. “They were taken safely to school and we have contacted their parents to let them know their children were safe. We are working closely with the Michigan State Police to investigate the incident thoroughly. We will continue to monitor those involved and provide the necessary support to those affected. Your understanding and support mean a lot to us. Please remind all drivers in your family to be aware that buses are on the roads in the morning and afternoon, transporting our students to and from school. Our drivers safely transport almost half of all Greenville Public Schools students.”

The Greenville Department of Public Safety, Montcalm County EMS and Montcalm County Central Dispatch assisted at the scene.
