JUST IN: Longtime Montcalm County prosecutor announces retirementFree Access

STANTON – In an unexpected move, Montcalm County’s longtime prosecutor will not be running for reelection this year.

Montcalm County Prosecutor Andrea Krause

Andrea Krause of Greenville announced her retirement on Friday after 35 years of working in the Prosecutor’s Office, the last 26 years as the elected head prosecutor.

“The time has come for me to bid farewell to the Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office at the end of my term this December and embrace the next chapter in my life: Retirement,” Krause said.

The filing deadline for anyone wishing to run for prosecutor or for any county or township office is 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Villet has filed to run for prosecutor, according to the Montcalm County Clerk’s Office. A longtime local attorney, he has worked for the Prosecutor’s Office since 2021 and became chief assistant in 2023.

Krause believes she is the longest serving elected prosecutor in Montcalm County’s history, noting that Homer Miel was elected prosecutor for 25 years. Krause will remain on the job for the next eight months until her term ends.

“It’s with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement as I reflect on the many memorable moments, challenges overcome and friendships forged along the way,” Krause said. “I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the experiences that have shaped me both personally and professionally. To my colleagues, thank you for your support throughout the years. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside such talented individuals who have inspired me and enriched my professional life in countless ways. Your support, camaraderie, and dedication have made every day a pleasure to come to work.

“To all of you, my friends, and followers, thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and engagement. Your kind words and shared experiences have made this journey all the more meaningful. I’ll cherish the memories we’ve shared and look forward to creating new ones in the years to come.

“As I embark on this new adventure called retirement, I look forward to spending more time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, and exploring new interests. While I will miss the hustle and bustle of the professional world, I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you once again for being a part of my journey. Here’s to new beginnings, endless possibilities and a future filled with joy and fulfillment.”
