GREENVILLE — Incumbent city councilperson Claude Johnson and write-in candidate Mike Mangus were elected to the Greenville City Council among a field of five total candidates Tuesday evening.
According to the unofficial results posted by the Montcalm County Clerk’s Office, Johnson, who was the lone candidate on the ballot, received the majority of votes, with Mangus coming in second within a field that included four total write-in candidates.
The results were as follows:
• Claude Johnson — 823 votes
• Mike Mangus — 263 votes
• Lesa Wellman — 89 votes
• Jeff Hines — 44 votes
• Don Rumsey — 15 votes
Additionally, there were 25 invalid write-in ballots.
Johnson was originally appointed to the board in 2020 and was successfully re-elected when he ran unopposed in 2021.
The additional seat on the seven-member council was open after councilperson Jay Linton, who has served on the council since 2017, chose not to seek another term.
Johnson and Mangus will be sworn onto the council during the council’s first meeting in January.
