JUST IN: Belvidere Township treasurer resigns, leaving board with only 2 membersFree Access

BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP — The Belvidere Township treasurer resigned on Tuesday, the third township official to step down in less than one month.

Yolanda Lane

Yolanda Lane, the former township clerk, ran for treasurer against incumbent Forrest Herzog, with Herzog winning the election in August 2024. However, Herzog resigned this past March and the board appointed Lane treasurer in May.

Trustee Wayne Watts confirmed to the Daily News on Tuesday night that he was notified of Lane’s resignation earlier this evening. He said Lane didn’t specify a reason for her resignation, but it was effective immediately.

Lane did not immediately return a message from the Daily News seeking comment on Tuesday night.

The Belvidere Township Board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Watts said he thinks the meeting will still proceed, but he’s not sure whether it will be an official meeting as only he and Trustee Brent Dietrich (Lane’s son) remain on the board.

Leigh Murray resigned as supervisor on Nov. 30, just 10 days after Tim Anstett resigned as clerk after just a month and a half on the job even as multiple financial issues continue to mount in the township.

Watts said he plans to speak with the township attorney on Wednesday morning for advice on how to move forward.

In the last three years, Belvidere Township has gone through four supervisors, seven clerks, two treasurers and four trustees.
