Judge gives Stanton teen a lesser sentence for second-degree murder

Bauer to serve at least 17 years for role in Greenville teen’s death

A Montcalm County judge in a rare action Friday agreed to a “downward departure” request and sentenced a Stanton teen to a lesser prison sentence for his role in the shooting death of a Greenville teen nearly two years ago. A Montcalm County jury found Nicholas Bauer, 19, guilty this past May of second-degree murder, felony firearm, three charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and three charges of possessing a firearm at the time of committing assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
