Ionia woman killed, Fenwick man injured in two-vehicle crashFree Access


FAIRPLAIN TOWNSHIP — An Ionia woman was killed and a Fenwick man was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning.

Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies responded to Fenwick Road near Miller Road at 9:27 a.m.

The investigation determined that a 2004 Chevy Tahoe was traveling west on Fenwick Road approaching Miller Road. At that same time, a 2006 Lexus RX330 was traveling north on Miller Road approaching Fenwick Road. The Lexus then disregarded the stop sign, proceeded into the intersection and was struck by the Tahoe.

The driver of the Lexus, a 35-year-old woman from Ionia, was transported to Corewell Health Greenville Hospital by Montcalm County Emergency Services where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Tahoe, a 38-year-old man from Fenwick, was treated on scene by Montcalm County Emergency Services for non-life-threatening injuries.

Seatbelts were believed to have been used by both drivers. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors. The crash remains under investigation.

The intersection was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Montcalm County Emergency Services, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement and the Sheridan Community Fire Department.
