An Ionia Department of Public Safety officer helped a man escape from a house fire Monday afternoon. According to Ionia DPS Director Cory McDiarmid, a neighbor noticed smoke and then flames coming from inside a residence at 206 S. Jefferson St. around 4 p.m. The neighbor called Ionia County Central Dispatch.
