Home Township looks to double police department millage

Voters in the Nov. 4 election will be asked to decide whether to double the police millage in Home Township to expand the tiny police department. The ballot proposal calls for increasing the millage from 1.25 mills ($1.25 per each $1,000 of taxable value) to 2.50 mills for five years (2025 through 2029) to raise funds for police department operations, including vehicles, apparatus, equipment and housing. If approved, the new millage would generate approximately $97,245 in its first year (on top of the current 1.25 millage for a total annual police millage of around $194,490).
