HOME TOWNSHIP — An elderly Edmore man driving an off-road vehicle across M-66 was killed when he failed to yield to traffic on Monday afternoon.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office and multiple emergency responders were dispatched around 1:16 p.m. to M-66 near Church Road, six miles north of the sheriff’s office in Stanton.
According to the sheriff’s office, an 89-year-old Edmore man was driving a utility terrain vehicle (or UTV, also known as a side-by-side) and crossing M-66 at Church Road when he failed to yield to traffic on M-66 and struck a pick-up truck, which rolled.
No additional information was available Monday evening. A sheriff’s office spokesman said the office plans to issue a press release sometime on Tuesday.
The Daily News was at the scene and witnessed the Belvidere Township Fire Department and Home Township Fire Department helping with traffic control. Multiple other emergency vehicles were at the scene as well, including the Michigan State Police and Montcalm County EMS.
M-66 between Church Road and Deaner Road was closed to traffic until around 5 p.m.
