Consumers Energy will be upgrading high-voltage electric equipment this weekend, part of the company’s Reliability Roadmap to reduce the potential for power outages in the region.

The work will start today (Saturday) and interrupt electricity to 1,158 homes and businesses in Ionia County, largely around the town of Palo. Crews will start work at 11 p.m. and continue until as late as 7 a.m. the next morning (Sunday).

“Consumers Energy has made a commitment to fewer and shorter power outages, and upgrading equipment is part of the plan we’re carrying out before the year ends to make that happen,” said Steve Herrygers, Consumers Energy’s senior executive director of high voltage distribution. “We appreciate the patience of community members who’ll be affected, and it’s our priority to complete this work as quickly and safely as we can.”

Postcards were mailed to affected customers in the area. Consumers Energy often schedules work like this overnight, when many people are asleep, to minimize disruptions to businesses or other activities. If work needs to be rescheduled, the scheduled outage will start at 11 p.m. Nov 1.
