Competing in his first-ever sprint triathlon in the 12th annual Tri Greenville event on Saturday, Ethan Schmid, 21, of Belding, was just excited to be competing closely with two of his friends. As the trio completed the first portion of the event — a 0.32-mile swim — they transitioned onto their bikes and began the 11.8-mile cycling journey.
