The Belding City Council in a reversal on Tuesday voted 5-0 to appoint their finance director as interim city manager after previously voting to offer the interim job to a candidate with a concerning work history. As reported by the Daily News on Dec. 4, Troy Bell was the city manager of Muskegon Heights until he was fired in January 2023. Reports from multiple news sources indicated his term was cut short after it was alleged that he entered into a software contract without the consent of the City Council and paid himself a higher hourly rate instead of a straight salary.
