Athlete of the Week nominees for June 3, 2025Free Access


Kate Hardy

Central Montcalm softball

Hardy, a senior, was the winning pitcher in their final regular season game against Lakeview on Thursday, where she gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one. She also collected two hits in their 14-0 shutout over the Wildcats and led with two RBIs in game one of that doubleheader. She also earned the win as pitcher in their district championship win over Morley Stanwood on Saturday. Hardy played the season with a knee injury all season long.

Ashley Choponis

Central Montcalm girls track

Choponis, a senior, earned All State honors at the MHSAA Division 3 track and field state meet in three events, including the 1,600m (5th), 3,200m (5th) and 4x800m relay (3rd) where she set new personal records in all three events. She was also crowned the Most Outstanding Athlete at the Daily News Meet of Champions on Wednesday for her efforts. 

Trevor Boyer

Greenville boys track and field

Boyer, a senior, had a personal best pole vault jump of 14-6 at the Division 1 State Meet, finishing 7th and earning All State. He also earned Academic All State as well. On Wednesday at the Daily News Meet of Champions, he was named MVP of the meet after finishing first in 110m hurdles and pole vault, while also garnering a second place finish in the 300 hurdles. His 14.87 time in the hurdles was his personal best and he jumped 14-0 in the vault. Trevor was also named team MVP and won the Golden Shoe Award for scoring the most points this season.

Holli Painter

Lakeview girls soccer

Painter, a junior, broke her own school record for most goals in a season with her 41st goal in their 5-0 shutout over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy during Tuesday’s Division 4 district semifinal, which also happened to be the program’s 200th win. 

Sutton Schroeder

Greenville boys golf

Schroeder, a senior, finished third at regionals at The Mines on Wednesday with a 75 to be the only golfer in the area to qualify for the MHSAA Division 2 state finals.
