Waiting on the results of their annual financial audit, Montcalm Township Clerk Christine Foley admitted it was difficult to sleep some nights as she kept her fingers crossed for positive results. After years of issues — ranging from back taxes on employee salaries having not been paid, accounts between the clerk and treasurer failing to be reconciled and delayed communications with the Michigan Department of Treasury resulting in fines, threats of a state audit and a mandated corrective action plan — Foley was able to smile.
