The beginnings of the city of Stanton were organized in 1860 when the people of Montcalm County voted to relocate the county seat from Greenville to a more central area. A man named Fred Hall deeded 40 acres for the new courthouse and the grateful townsfolk decided to name the new town “Fred” in his honor.
