As Lakeview Elementary School third-graders were learning about Michigan’s history this past spring, they drew and colored bulb-shaped Christmas ornaments highlighting many of the state’s special treasures, such as robins and loons, Great Lakes beaches and the Mackinac Bridge, colorful sunsets, white pine trees and winter nights. Now, fourth-graders, the class was surprised with a special announcement on Friday morning: Their ornaments will be hung on the Michigan Christmas tree beside the National Christmas Tree in President’s Park at the White House in Washington, D.C.
