STANTON — Firefighters from five area fire departments responded to a blaze at Evans Repair and Tire early Monday morning.
The Stanton Community Fire Department was dispatched the report of a structure fire at 1:50 a.m. at 133 W. Main St. in downtown Stanton.
Upon arrival, Stanton Chief Brian Brasington told the Daily News at the scene that smoke was coming through the eves of the building.
Firefighters made entry and discovered the fire was located in the attic space of the structure, in the southeast corner of the building, but they were unable to extinguish the fire within as it grew.

A defensive attack from outside was then established with multiple fire hoses and three deck guns, from two engines, as well as the ladder apparatus unit from the Greenville Department of Public Safety.
So much water was used that Brasington said at one point, the city water tower was nearly depleted of water, but over time the water situation was remedied.
According to the owners of Evans Repair and Tire, no one was in the building at the time of the fire and there are no reported injuries.
Brasington said the building, which contained vehicles and many other combustible items, is likely a total loss, along with the contents within.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The intersection of Main and Court streets will remain closed to traffic as fire firefighters continue to work the scenes.
This is a developing story.
