Ionia County has declared a state of emergency after being hit by two tornadoes on Saturday, along with ongoing extensive rainfall.
Ionia County Board of Commissioners Chairman David Hodges of Belding declared a state of emergency on Tuesday morning and the county board voted 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon (with Commissioner Karen Banks absent) to extend it for 30 days through July 29. Without the extension, the state of emergency would expire in seven days.
