One last crossing

Cherished by Walnut Hills students, Greenville crossing guard ‘Mr. Jim’ retires

The distance of 20 or so feet it takes to cross from one side of a city street to the other may seem pedestrian to the average citizen, but to an elementary school kindergartner, such a feat can be on par with crossing the Grand Canyon.

As cars, trucks and school buses make their way back and forth along N. Walnut Street, crossing the street from the parking lot to the entrance of Walnut Hills Elementary School is the first task many young students encounter before they meet their teacher to start the school day.
