Edmore Village Council approves vacant building rules

The Edmore Village Council has given final approval to a proposed ordinance aimed at reducing habitually vacant buildings in the business districts.

By a unanimous vote Monday night, council members approved Ordinance 2022-01, which requires owners of vacant buildings in the B1 General Business and B2 Highway Business districts to register their properties and pay an annual fee of $200 for the registration. The fee will double each subsequent year, not to exceed an amount of $600 per building for the registration.

Edmore Village Council considers ordinance for ‘habitually vacant’ buildings

As the Edmore Village Council continues to look to the health and vitality of the downtown business district, they are eying an ordinance that they hope might reduce long-term vacancies. 

Village Manager Justin Lakamper told council members at Monday’s meeting that he and members of the Ordinance Committee put together a draft proposed ordinance that would require the owners of vacant buildings to register their properties and pay an annual fee.
