Montcalm County to spend a little extra to buy tractor from local business

The Montcalm County Board of Commissioners at their committee meeting Tuesday recommended going with the second lowest bid for a maintenance tractor in order to keep the purchase local.

Maintenance Director Doug Gietzen recommended the county approve purchasing a 35 HP compact New Holland tractor with a back blade and snow blade from Burnips Equipment Co. in Big Rapids for $29,812.24 — the lowest of five bids received. The tractor would be used for leaf and snow cleanup to replace a 1989 dump truck that is no longer in service for the county.
