From educator shortage to potential federal COVID mandates, MAISD tackling multiple issues

With every retirement or resignation from a teacher or administrator, with every sickness contracted by a bus driver or custodian, school districts across are struggling to remain staffed as increased levels of stress tests both teachers and students.

Between juggling preparations for potential federal COVID mandates (currently held up in courts) to addressing concerns from parents and community members, the pandemic has created a climate in education unlike anything educators have witnessed before.

Ionia Public Schools sees staffing changes

A new superintendent isn’t the only staffing change at Ionia Public Schools this summer.

Ben Gurk was hired as the district’s new superintendent on June 16. Since that time, multiple other changes are taking place and will continue to take place as the school district is now looking to hire a new high school principal, a middle school principal, a human resources director and a payroll director.
