The Pierson Township Board met for its first meeting of the new year on Monday, and while it was a dark and rainy evening, the focus was on the sun — solar energy, to be exact.
The township board voted 4-0 to place a moratorium on issuing solar energy permits within the township while the Planning Commission begins work on creating a solar ordinance.
A solar energy ordinance referendum will appear on the township’s ballot in this summer’s primary election.
The Winfield Township Board voted 5-0 last Thursday to approve language to appear on the ballot in August asking township residents whether they wish to approve the township’s new solar ordinance.
