Recent Carson City-Crystal High School graduate Zane Forist officially capped off his high school career at the Nike Outdoor Nationals meet in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday with another national championship in the shot put.
Saturday’s state track finals in Hudsonville weren’t anything new to Zane Forist.
The Carson City-Crystal senior has been here before in both the shot put and discus, winning All-State honors in both of his prior appearances. As a freshman, Forist placed second in the discus and eighth in the shot put — the state of Michigan was put on notice at that point.
There is a certain buzz around the throwing pits near Keats Wood Field.
It’s a kind of buzz that is far different than other track meets — something special is happening here in Vestaburg.
Whenever Zane Forist shows up to a track meet, it’s a big deal.
“He’s kind of like a rockstar,” said Carson City-Crystal head track coach Grant Woodman. “When we go to meets, it’s always, ‘That’s the kid from Carson City.’”
At the top of the rankings in Michigan track and field high school discus and shot put, a familiar name around the area shows up at No. 1 — Carson City-Crystal junior Zane Forist.
