Acquired by the Montcalm Area Intermediate School District 33 years ago, the Seiter Education Center building has a long history of serving special education students.
However, it’s the history prior to its service as a school building that points to reasons why school district administrators and board trustees may consider pursuing a bond to renovate the building.
In moving forward with a focus on the “safety and wellbeing” of students, the Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) will be overhauling a parking lot long-plagued by potholes, leaning light poles and drainage issues.
During the May 20 meeting of the MAISD Board of Education, trustees voted 4-1, with Vice President Mark Christensen opposed, to accept a bid from Crawford Contracting Inc. of Mount Pleasant to perform parking lot improvements at the district’s Seiter Education Center, a special education school located at 1401 E. Van Deinse St. in Greenville.
The Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) is transitioning its K-12 special education programs from in-person to remote learning until April 26.
