An Illinois man was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison for stealing a high-priced dog while shooting at the dog owner before leading a high-speed police chase from Carson City to Greenville in 2019.
A jury of seven women and six men found John Erganian, 33, of Zion, Illinois, guilty this past April of three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm (a lesser charge than the original three charges of assault with intent to commit murder), armed robbery, felony firearm, reckless driving and third-degree fleeing and eluding. The verdict came at the end of a one-day trial before Montcalm County Circuit Court Judge Suzanne Kreeger.
