With a possible landfill expansion in the works, members of the Ionia County Solid Waste Committee are taking some heat as they discuss the petition to amend the Pitsch Sanitary Landfill expansion project.

The owners of an Ionia County landfill are asking the county board of commissioners for permission to expand into a second township, and take in more waste from outside the county.
Gary Pitsch of Pitsch Recycle and Disposal Inc., which operates the 143.5-acre Pitsch Sanitary Landfill in Orleans Township, attended the April 27, May 11 and May 18 meetings to discuss amendments he is proposing to the Ionia County Solid Waste Plan.
The Ionia County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a request to fill a deputy court clerk position vacant due to a retirement.
Ronald Morseau, the District Court administrator and magistrate, asked commissioners to allow him to fill the position, which was held by Alva Fewless, who retired June 25 after 23 years of service.
