The Pierson Township Board on May 18 voted 5-0 to hire Jane Kolbe to replace outgoing assessor Carl Schuitema who is retiring at the end of July. Schuitema has been the township assessor since 2018.

Pierson Township golf course owners considering RV park development

The owners of a Pierson Township golf course are considering developing it into an RV park and more.

Rick Rookstool told the Daily News that he and Brenda Steuer as Bass Lake Golf Club LLC purchased Whitefish Lake Golf & Grill at 2241 N. Bass Lake Road from 19th Hole Group in April 2021. They are each a 50% owner and Rookstool co-manages the business with Brenda’s husband, David Steuer.

Natural gas coming to Pierson area

Natural gas is coming to Montcalm County’s Panhandle as part of one of DTE Energy’s community expansion projects.

Construction is expected to begin in April and natural gas services will be available to residents later this year, according to Mary Clare Liening, senior communications strategist with DTE Energy.

Local townships presented with charter township option

Having been given the option to turn Crystal Township into a charter township, the Crystal Township Board is expected to make a decision on the matter at this month’s board meeting.

During the board’s January meeting, Clerk Patty Baker-Marek said the state of Michigan recently gave the township the option of becoming a charter township due to recent census results.
