The Michigan Court of Appeals denied a man’s appeal regarding his attempted murder conviction, the argument of which hinged on defective instructions to the jury in an Ionia County court.

Steven Bradley MacKenzie, now 61, was 54 years old when he was convicted by a jury in October 2014 of the attempted murder of his wife, as well as aggravated domestic violence. The charges stemmed from the Lansing man attacking his wife at their Clarksville cottage in Ionia County while the couple was amid divorce proceedings.

Edmore man re-sentenced for 2001 murder

An Edmore man who was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole 16 years ago could now theoretically be released from prison in another 16 years.

Anthony Chapman, who is now 38 years old, was sentenced in August 2005 by now-retired Montcalm County Circuit Court Judge Charles Miel to life in prison without parole for the 2001 murder of Kathryn Dyer, 71, of Edmore.

Zachary Benjamin Corcoran, 37, was arraigned Nov. 30, 2021, in Montcalm County District Court on a charge of homicide/open murder. He is charged with killing Stephan Edward Harrington, 68, on Nov. 28 at the residence they shared on Bertha Drive near Sawdust Lake in Pine Township. The two men were married and had recently gone through a divorce but were still living together.

One of two young men charged with the murder of a teenage girl from Greenville has been sentenced to prison time.

Kevin Bartz, 23, of Cedar Springs and Nicholas Bauer, 18, of Stanton were each charged with murder, assault with intent to commit murder and two counts each of felony firearms in the shooting death of Destini Cunliffe, 18, of Greenville as well as the shooting of a 15-year-old Greenville girl who sustained a leg injury. The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 13 at the intersection of Ann and Janet streets near the intersection of M-66 and Sidney Road.
