After first picking up an instrument five years ago, eager to become a talented musician, Bryce DeHaan was disappointed to find that learning to play the trumpet would be a struggle.
Often seated as the last chair among his classmates on the instrument, DeHaan could only dream of showcasing the talent he felt he was capable of demonstrating.
With each note to be played this upcoming Friday afternoon, students in the Central Montcalm High School Symphonic Band will be creating a sound heard by the most accomplished of audiences, seated in the grandest of settings.
Selected among the very best high school bands the state of Michigan has to offer, the 73 students, joined by their director, Matthew Reed, will be performing and conducting for an audience of band directors from throughout the state during this year’s Michigan Music Conference at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids.
