Jeff Scoby sworn in as Greenville mayor
For the third time in three years, Greenville is starting off the new year with a new mayor.
During Tuesday evening’s annual organizational meeting, members of the City Council voted unanimously, with Councilperson Jeanne Cunliffe absent, to elect Councilperson Jeff Scoby to serve as mayor.
Except for a few years when he was serving in the United States Navy, Carson City’s new mayor Neil Kapustka was born, raised and has worked in town his entire life.
Kapustka has been on the City Council for 12 years. He ran unopposed for the position after the previous mayor, Tom McCrackin, decided he was finished and wanted to spend more time in Florida.
Having served more than two decades on the Greenville City Council, Councilman Mark Lehman, 59, will now continue to do so in a new capacity as this community’s next mayor.
During Tuesday’s annual organizational meeting, members of the council voted — as they do every year per the city’s charter — to select the positions of mayor and mayor pro tem for the year.
