Belding area native running for governor

Michigan State Police captain Mike Brown announced his candidacy on Aug. 19

As a young man who grew up picking apples and baling hay at local Belding-area farms, Mike Brown said from an early age he grew to appreciate the value of hard work.

That early work ethic saw Brown, 56, enter into a 33-year career in law enforcement with the Michigan State Police (MSP), and now the former U.S. Marine and 1983 graduate of Belding High School is setting his sights on the state’s top political seat, entering the race for Michigan’s governor.
