Greenville City Council approves purchase of new turnout gear for firefighters

The Greenville City Council approved an annual expenditure Tuesday evening, aimed at keeping city firefighters safe. 

Meeting at their newly established time for City Council meetings at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m., the council voted unanimously to award a bid for the purchase of five sets of personal protection equipment, otherwise known as “turnout gear,” to Dinges Fire Co. of Amboy, Ill., in an amount not to exceed $17,830.

The Belding Fire Department building is getting a makeover, and the city’s firemen are volunteering their time to make it happen.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting Fire Chief Tim Lubitz made a request to expand the Fire Department. Council members approved the request unanimously (with Councilman Ron Gunderson absent).

Friday fire destroys Carson City home

A house trailer is a total loss after a fire broke out Friday morning.

Carson City Fire Chief Mark Crawfis said the Carson City Fire Department, with automatic mutual aid provided by the Crystal Township Fire Department, was dispatched to 7875 Garlock Road, Lot 3, around 11 a.m.

Firefighters successfully knock down blaze in garage, save Montcalm Township home

After working through near-freezing temperatures and battling against the flames and smoke of a house fire, firefighters are placing one in the win column after successfully saving a local residence from total destruction Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. firefighters from the Montcalm Township Fire Department were dispatched to 5182 S. Johnson Road to a reported structure fire.
