Inaugural MIPitch event awards cash prizes to five local entrepreneurs

Jessica DeShane walked into Belding’s Candlestone Resort on Tuesday to present at the inaugural MIPitch event with a business idea, the ambition to become an entrepreneur and plenty of nerves.

A few hours later, DeShane walked away with a first-place award and $5,000 to help make her and her husband’s dreams become a reality.

United Way Montcalm-Ionia Counties launches Financial Literacy Video Contest for students

Looking to break down barriers that have left many Michiganders stuck in a zone on the cusp of poverty, one local organization is working toward educating the youth to help guide them toward a better financial future. 

United Way Montcalm-Ionia Counties, which fights for the health, education and financial stability of all members of the two counties, has announced a Financial Literacy Video Contest targeted toward high school teenagers.
