An amendment to the “redevelopment and reimbursement” agreement for the Harker Middle School brownfield in Saranac was approved on Feb. 14 by the Ionia County Board of Commissioners.
The amendment was first approved by the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority at their Jan. 24 meeting and came before the board on Feb. 14 for final approval.

Living on N. Fourth Street, the North Wood project proposed by Brayton of Brayton Homes LLC to construct six duplex-style condominium buildings containing 12 units on 2.55 acres of vacant property she purchased on E. North Street sits just a few blocks away, and upon completion, she’s expecting the units to better the community by providing new, affordable housing options for the community.
The former E. Washington Street location of Sparrow Ionia Hospital location may have new life after the Ionia Planning Commission approved a concept drawing for a residential development.
Greg Cook of AC Development submitted the preliminary drawing to the Planning Commission looking for “some direction,” Planning Commission Chairman Boomer Hoppough said during the commission’s March 10 meeting.
