Lance Langdon is coming out of retirement.
The Ionia County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted 6-0 (with Commissioner Georgia Sharp absent) to approve hiring Langdon as the new director of Ionia County Central Dispatch, filling the vacancy of Jim Valentine who retired in mid-May.
The Ionia County 911 monthly surcharge is increasing by 50 cents per device, but not before a lengthy debate took place about possibly increasing it even more to help fund radios for county firefighters.
The Ionia County Board of Commissioners on April 13 voted 6-1 to increase the surcharge rate per device per month from $2.30 to $2.85 starting this July through June 2022 at the recommendation of Central Dispatch Director Jim Valentine.
Even as he was being showered with compliments and acclaim, Jim Valentine declined to take any of the credit.
The outgoing Ionia County Central Dispatch director was honored for his 12 years on the job during Tuesday’s Ionia County Board of Commissioners meeting as he prepares to retire on May 14.
