Vestaburg’s Owen Patton finishes second in cross country state finals, Abby Davis earns All-State honors

Earlier in the day, Vestaburg junior Abby Davis earned her first All-State honors with a 24th-place finish in the girls race.

Belding gives an emotional performance at MCBA state finals

As the final notes faded out into silence following the performance of the Belding High School marching band Saturday morning, Ross Adkinson reflected upon having stuck his snare drum a final time as a member of the band.

Performing at the Michigan Competing Bands Association State Finals for Flight V competition, Adkinson, 17, took in the final moments he and his peers had standing on Ford Field in downtown Detroit as the crowd cheered.

Tri County shows ‘strength, determination and grit’ at MCBA state finals

At some point past the halfway mark of their performance at Ford Field on Saturday, drum majors Heavyn Musgrave, Camryn Matthews and Ryann Leyko shared a moment they will never forget.

The Tri County High School seniors had been conducting the high school’s 76-member marching band, competing at the Michigan Competing Bands Association State Finals, and at the most impactful moment of their show, their emotions got the better of them.

Kamryn Salladay earns Lakeview’s first All-State honors since 2000

Kamryn Salladay emerged from the awards staging area on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. Smile beaming as usual for the freshman. She gave head coach Michelle Outman a big hug, Salladay is thankful for her coach and teammates to be in a position where she can go out and compete with the best in the Central State Activities Association and, now, the state. Salladay finished eighth in the MHSAA Division 3 state cross country finals on Saturday in a final time of 18:41.

Central Montcalm’s Hoffman, Coston siblings lead Green Hornets as part of five All-Staters

Kyah Hoffman looked over to her Central Montcalm teammates and showed a half-smile. Maybe in disbelief from her teammates’ hilarious antics, or maybe she was just nervous. With her Green Hornet teammates, the former is most likely the culprit. Hoffman, Ashley Choponis and Grace Coston represented the Green Hornets on the medal stand by placing in the top-30 during Saturday’s MHSAA Division 3 state cross country finals at Michigan International Speedway.

Gage Hoffman, Kyah’s younger brother, and senior Graham Coston both earned All-State honors in the boys race on Saturday for a total of five Green Hornets on the medal stand.
