Sheriff investigating stolen signs in Winfield Township

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office is investigating alleged stolen and vandalized signs in Winfield Township related to today’s election.

The Daily News first learned of the incident on Oct. 12, but did not report on it because no parties were willing to speak on the record at that time. After a story was published in Monday’s Daily News regarding alleged stolen and vandalized signs in Maple Valley Township, two Winfield Township residents contacted the Daily News: Ryan VanSolkema, who is running against Winfield Township Supervisor Phyllis Larson in today’s recall election and Julia Potratz who is running against Trustee John Black.

A general contractor that was passed over in a bid for building the new Belding wastewater treatment plant had some comments to make to the City Council.

During the Nov. 1 meeting, Rob Kalniak, vice president of Davis Construction, took the podium during public comment to voice his displeasure with City Manager Jon Stoppels’ recommendation to the council to choose the bid from Fleis & Vandenbrink over bids from Davis Construction and Williams & Works.

The Edmore Village Council approved a marijuana license transfer and found that a new business owner had permission to operate after a lease disagreement.

Pinnacle Emporium has been at 413 E. Main St. in downtown Edmore since 2020 in a building owned by Travis Jensen/Phenix BT, which leased the building to KISA Enterprises.
