Winfield Township officials debate future of deteriorating township hall

The embattled members of the Winfield Township Board are still trying to figure out whether to build a new township hall or try to improve the current one, as well as how to fund the project.

Winfield Township Hall, located on M-46 in Amble, is a crumbling cinder block structure more than 100 years old. The walls are full of cracks inside and out and the concrete in the deteriorating basement is buckling.

Ionia students to attend tech convention in Chicago

The Ionia County Intermediate School District Board on Thursday approved a special student field trip to Chicago.

A group of Ionia County Career Center students will take a charted bus trip to the International Manufacturing Technology Show at McCormick Place in Chicago on Sept. 13. The trip is sponsored by NN/Auto-Cam Medical of Grand Rapids and will include breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Festival takes over downtown Ionia on Oct. 1

After a pandemic hiatus, the popular Michigan Wizard of Oz Festival returns to downtown Ionia on Oct. 1.

“We’re trying to recover from two years of COVID, so this year’s festival is a little bit smaller, but moving forward, we will be able to gain some traction again,” Ionia Downtown Development Authority Director Linda Curtis said.
