As the 50th annual Frontier Days festival got underway from downtown Carson City to Haradine Park on Friday, attendees anticipated seeing Don Wertman and his VIPER hot air balloon tethered and waiting.
However, when cars began filing into the designated parking area, Wertman stood near his balloon basket outside of a silver enclosed trailer.

The Carson City-Crystal senior has been here before in both the shot put and discus, winning All-State honors in both of his prior appearances. As a freshman, Forist placed second in the discus and eighth in the shot put — the state of Michigan was put on notice at that point.
